Travel information to Venice
Show a larger version
Venice is served by the Marco Polo International Airport. The airport is connected by bus shuttles and taxis to the mainland destinations and to the Piazzale Roma bus terminal in Venice. Venice is also connected by "Alilaguna" waterbuses (heading to the railway station, the bus terminal and San Marco square) and by private water taxis.
[By the way, coming to Venice by plane can be a great experience]
- Verona - Catullo , (cities connected to Verona)
- Brescia - Montichiari
- Bergamo - Orio al Serio
- Milano Linate
Venice is served by regional, national and international trains. The train station is 15 minutes away from the conference location. See the blue path on the above map.
By bus from the airport or from MestreThe bus terminal is Piazzale Roma; the two main company serving Venice from the mainland are ATVO and ACTV (the latter is the municipal company, it also provides water transportation). The conference venue can be conveniently reached in 10 minutes by walking (only three bridges to cross! See the red path on the map above).
Venice is a no-car zone. Cars can reach the car/bus terminal via the bridge (Ponte della Libertà, SS11), coming from the mainland. The main parking lot which serves the city is the "Tronchetto" island, other lots are in Piazzale Roma. Cars can be parked there anytime for around 25€ per day.
Cheaper parking can be found at Fusina or at San Giuliano, connected to Venice by bus and water bus. Free parking is available at Lido, but you need a ferry boat to get there.
- Municipal service agency with different fares depending on the location: see "Car parks / City parking garage" for a garage in Piazzale Roma and "Car parks / S. Giuliano" for a cheaper mainland parking lot in a convenient location.
- Tronchetto parking: ugly and unusable website, the bottom line is 25€/day.
- Terminal Fusina: could not find the parking fares, maybe you are luckier!
Public transportation in Venice
As moving by private means (other than your own shoes) is impossible, you must refer to the public transportation company, offering various solutions depending on the length of your stay.
